A New Path: Ongakken Leaves Game Dev
Ongakken pivots from game dev to ML research. We're creating a personal life-tracking platform with a focus on privacy and open-source tech. We aim to empower communication with NLP, improving social interactions and enriching ML understanding.
We've always been about creating. We started out as a group of enthusiastic students with a shared passion for coding, working together on a reinforcement learning project, and from there, we grew into a game development studio. But the landscape is ever-changing, and so are we. Today, we're excited to announce a new chapter in our journey: we're pivoting to become an ML research lab - OngakkenAI.
This is a homecoming of sorts. We're returning to our roots in machine learning, but this time with the added experience and insights we've gained from our foray into game development. The ML boom at the end of 2022 reminded us of the thrill of our early days, working on that initial machine learning project. We couldn't resist the pull. So now, in 2023, we're ready to dive back into the ML world, with a focus on natural language processing, and occasionally branching out into vision.
Our mission is ambitious but clear. We aim to build the ultimate, privacy-respecting, free and open-source, all-knowing personal life-tracking assistant. This is not just any digital assistant. We're talking about an assistant that knows all there is to know about you, while keeping all this information local, private, and always accessible by you. It's about creating a helper capable of everything from casual discussions to brainstorming, experimenting, planning, and many other complex tasks - akin to a personal butler.
But there's more to it than just building a helpful digital assistant. We're choosing to focus on NLP because we believe in the power of language and communication. We see a world where people struggle with communication, be it from social anxiety or an over-reliance on technology. Our goal is to build a system capable of learning how people think, feel, and behave, and then help them communicate better. By doing so, we hope not only to boost human social skills, but also to train our digital assistant to understand people better.
In a world where data is the new oil, privacy can often feel like an afterthought. Not for us. We are firm believers in the principles of digital freedom and privacy. Our technology is being built on these principles, ensuring that your data always stays with you, locally.
